Baptism - Session 1 Empty Re: Baptism - Session 1

Post by Admin Sat Sep 05, 2015 3:47 pm

Acts 2:38 (TBM Version: Provisional)
so Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptised, each of you, into the name of Jesus Christ, into the remission of sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
According to this verse:
1. What does Peter tell the people to do?
2. What are the aims of this baptism?
3. What follows upon baptism?

Mark 16:16 (TBM Version: Provisional)
ο πιστευσας και βαπτισθεὶς σωθησεται· ο δε απιστησας κατακριθησεται.
The (one) believing and being baptised will be saved, but the (one) unbelieving will be condemned.
According to this verse:
1. Is “the one believing” already saved?
2. Is “the one unbelieving” already condemned?
3. To be saved, what is required?
4. Is there a distinction between an unbelieving person who has been baptised and one who hasn’t?

1 Peter 3:20b-21a  (TBM Version: Provisional)
... κιβωτου, εις ην ολίγαι, τουτ’ εστιν οκτω ψυχαι, διεσωθησαν δι υδατος ο αντιτυπον νυν και ημας σωζει βαπτισμα...
... the ark in which a few, that is, eight, souls were saved through the water that now with antitypal baptism saves us ...
According to this verse:
1. What does the water now do?
2. How is this achieved?

Acts 10:45b-48a (NKJV)
those of the circumcision who believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles also. For they heard them speak with tongues and magnify God. Then Peter answered,"Can anyone forbid water, that these should not be baptized who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have?" And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord.
According to this verse:
1. Is  water necessary for baptism?
2. If a person has already received the Holy Spirit, is baptism into the name of the Lord unnecessary?

Matthew 28:19-20a (NKJV)
(Jesus spoke, saying...)Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you.
According to this verse:
1. Does Jesus command that baptism be conducted?
2. Is baptism included in that things that Jesus requires the apostles to teach people to observe?
3. In this text, what does “observe” mean?

Acts 22:16  (TBM Version: Provisional)
Και νυν τι μελλεις; αναστας βαπτισαι και απολουσαι τας αμαρτιας σου, επικαλεσαμενος το ονομα του κυρίου.
(Ananias said to Paul) and now why do you tarry? arising, be baptised and wash* away your sins, calling on his name.
1. Does the wording of this verse allow that “baptism” and “washing sin away” could be separate actions?
